Our respite care services offer short-term support and accommodation, providing hard-working family carers the opportunity to take a break, knowing that their loved ones are in capable hands and receiving the care they need. Whether it's in the comfort of their own home or in one of our residential facilities, our dedicated team ensures personalised and attentive care tailored to each individual's needs.
Our Respite Care Services
When your carer needs time of their own or simply needs to attend to other matters, we offer support through our respite services. With short-term day and overnight respite options, your carer can take a break with the comfort of knowing that you are receiving the support and attention you need.
In-home respite

Receive time with a care worker in your own home while your carer takes some time out. Home respite provides you with continuity of care through companionship, or personal or domestic assistance, in your own home.
Residential respite care
Our residential respite care offers short-term accommodation in our aged care facilities, providing a safe and supportive environment for your loved ones while their regular carer takes break.
Respite centre

Our respite centres offer you the opportunity to attend a respite centre where you can enjoy social and recreational activities in a relaxed, yet stimulating environment, while your carer is doing other things. Respite Centre activities may include the option to join group outings and bus trips to places like the local park, art gallery, the shopping centre or swimming pool.
In-home overnight respite

Our in-home overnight option provides carers with short flexible breaks while you stay at one of our well-equipped and comfortable overnight centres (for up to three nights). There are plenty of activities on offer including wellness programs, quizzes and board games, music appreciation, discussion groups and group outings.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do you offer short-term or respite care?
Most of our homes offer two-week respite care or short stay care. This may be used when your carer is away or unable to provide care for any other reason. Respite care is subject to availability and your specific care needs.
-
How much respite care do I have?
The Australian Government allocates 63 days residential respite each financial year, however the maximum length of stay is up to each provider. At Catholic Healthcare we have a 28 day maximum stay policy. We do consider increases to this timeframe, based on a person’s unique circumstance.
-
What does respite care cost?
The Basic Daily Care Fee is charged each day for respite stays along with the Dove Plus fee for the home, and this must be paid in full on arrival for a minimum 2-week period.
-
How do I extend respite?
The first step is to speak with the Residential Manager at the home. They will either go through myagedcare.gov.au or contact the local Aged Care Assessment Team (if your Assessment has expired).
Please Note: ACAT’s will not approve a respite extension retrospectively. You must apply for an extension before 63 days has been exceeded.
-
Is a registered nurse always on site?
Your care and safety is paramount to us, and all staff working in our homes are fully trained to the highest standard. Most of our aged care homes offer registered nursing care seven days a week, 24 hours a day. A small number of our homes do not have 24-hour nursing services. This is based on the people living in those homes being more independent, however, qualified staff are always on hand.
