At Catholic Healthcare Limited (CHL), we are committed to being responsible stewards of the environment, champions of social justice, and leaders in ethical governance. Guided by our mission and Catholic Social Teaching, we recognise that our work in aged care and community services must be grounded in sustainability, equity, and integrity.

Environmental Stewardship

Catholic Healthcare is taking meaningful steps to reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainable practices across our organisation. In FY25, CHL became a member of Sustainability Advantage, launched our inaugural ESG Action plan and commenced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions baselining. We are proud recipients of the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s NetZero Grant, which supports our commitment to climate action and responsible resource management.

Social Responsibility

Our people and communities are at the heart of everything we do. CHL’s ESG strategy prioritises:

  • Supporting Vulnerable Communities.
  • Embedding our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan to strengthen First Nations engagement.
  • Advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, with a focus on older persons.
  • Expanding our Volunteer and Community Corner Programs to deepen community connections.
  • Upholding human rights through ethical procurement and modern slavery

These initiatives reflect our belief in the inherent dignity of every person and our responsibility to foster inclusive, compassionate care.

Our Governance

Strong governance underpins our ability to deliver on our mission. CHL is embedding ESG considerations into our decision-making processes, risk oversight, and organisational culture. We are committed to:

  • Transparent public reporting on ESG performance.
  • Embedding ethical behaviour into our ways of working.
  • Aligning our ESG goals with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and CHL’s strategic roadmap

As The Late Pope Francis reminds us, the climate crisis and social inequality are moral issues that demand urgent and collective action. At CHL, we are answering that call with humility, purpose, and resolve

Catholic Healthcare’s governance structure operates under both Canon Law and Civil Law.

Catholic Healthcare was canonically established as a Ministerial Public Juridic Person (MPJP) by the Bishops of the Province of Sydney on 21 July 1994.

The governance of our MPJP is entrusted to the Trustees who are elected by the Members.

The Trustees' key obligations are:

  1. To witness our purpose in the healing ministry of Jesus
  2. To ensure the maintenance of the Catholic identity while embracing diversity.
  3. To steward the purpose and direction of Catholic Healthcare by appointing the Board.

Catholic Healthcare Limited (Catholic Healthcare) is a company limited by guarantee incorporated in 1994 under the Corporations Act. The Board manages its overall governance and administration, as entrusted by the Trustees of Catholic Healthcare.

The Board is responsible for overseeing Catholic Healthcare’s overall performance and the provision of safe and quality aged care services. The Board is assisted by various Board Committees and advisory bodies.
