Catholic Healthcare is delivering on its plan to invest in expanding retirement living, residential care, home care and wellness services. This investment will add new state-of-the-art retirement village apartments, new residential care homes and wellness services across a number of communities.

We are building Connected Communities – vibrant and inclusive places that are specifically designed to foster a sense of belonging and connection. These communities will integrate wellness services, expand community care, ageing-in-place apartments and have smaller residential care households. Below are our new projects under development approval.

Lewisham

Catholic Healthcare is committed to delivering modern, integrated, person-centred retirement and aged care services for the Inner West community. As part of this commitment, Catholic Healthcare is planning to deliver major upgrades to its existing residential care home in Lewisham to ensure we can continue to deliver the highest quality care for our senior community.

Catholic Healthcare has lodged a modification to a prior development application to align with the current ageing population and community needs. This modification aims to enhance the proposal and minimise impacts on the surrounding community. Lewisham will see the construction of 130 luxurious independent living apartments and 59 modern care suites.

Community benefits

The project will deliver significant long-term benefits not only for residents but also for the broader community by creating shared spaces that foster connection, health and wellbeing. The project will include spaces like a café, health and wellness hub, indoor pool and gym, hair salon, function and dining rooms, day respite services, reflection space and other activity and lifestyle spaces for the whole community to use.

Designed to enhance quality of life, these amenities will provide opportunities for social interaction, recreation, and support services for people of all ages in the local area.

Staying up to date

We are committed to engaging with our stakeholders and the community throughout the planning and construction process, and beyond. We look forward to working closely with the community to help shape the future of this important precinct.

Maroubra

Catholic Healthcare remains committed to delivering a high-quality precinct that meets the evolving needs of seniors while positively contributing to the broader Maroubra community.

We are preparing to deliver a new luxury Connected Community incorporating high-end retirement living apartments, residential care suites, and a wellness and community hub at 481–499 Malabar Road, Maroubra.

In 2019, we received development approval via the NSW Land and Environment Court. Since then, we reviewed and refined our plans to ensure the development remains aligned with the evolving needs of seniors and the wider community.

A modified Development Application (DA) has now been submitted, which will deliver improved outcomes for both future residents and the wider community.

While the building footprint remains largely the same as the approved plans, key changes include:

  • 55 Luxury independent living apartments and 44 care suites
  • A community-based café and wellness classes for both residents and the local community

Other facilities including:

  • Wellness centre
  • Hairdresser
  • Consulting rooms
  • Cinema
  • Residents private dining room and restaurant
  • Wine room
  • Indoor pool
  • Gym

Community benefits

Residents will benefit from thoughtfully designed accommodation and on-site services with proximity to the beach, local shops, entertainment, and public transport. The updated design is more contemporary and sustainable, enhancing the character of Maroubra with a thoughtfully planned precinct. The reduction in the number of independent living units and care suites means fewer residents will live on this site, expecting to reduce the impact on the community with less traffic and visitor activity. There will be easier pedestrian access and connectivity to local streets. The relocation of the café to the street front will help create a more welcoming and inclusive space for the broader community to enjoy.

Overall, the project reflects a balanced and forward-looking approach to development, one that respects the needs of older residents while contributing positively to the local area.
