Entry-level respite services for those needing occasional support.

Home Care Packages (HCP) :
Can be used to fund ongoing respite and home care services.

Residential Care Fees :
When staying in a residential care home for respite, a daily care fee is usually required for the duration of the stay.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who is respite care best suited for?
Respite care is ideal for those who provide daily support to an older adult, or someone with a disability or chronic health condition. It’s especially valuable if you’re balancing other responsibilities, such as work or caring for children. Whether on a regular or occasional basis, respite care offers you the flexibility to maintain your health and wellbeing.
Please call our friendly team on 1800 225 474 for more details. -
What is the difference between short-term respite care and day centre respite care?
Day Centre Respite Care offers a supportive and engaging environment where you can participate in social and recreational activities while your carer takes a short break. Our day centres offer dementia-friendly programs, including gentle exercise, arts and crafts, and social outings, promoting health, wellness, and connection.
Short-Term Respite Care offers a temporary stay in a residential aged care home, typically for a few days or weeks. This provides round-the-clock support and care, giving carers a longer break while ensuring their loved ones receive professional care in a safe and comfortable setting.
Availability for short-term respite care may vary, so we recommend calling our friendly team on 1800 225 474 to secure a spot. -
How much residential aged care respite do I have?
Australians eligible for government-subsidised residential aged care respite can access up to 63 days per financial year. This includes both planned and emergency respite and can be extended in certain circumstances with approval. The cost of respite care varies based on individual care needs and funding eligibility. Many people contribute a basic daily fee, similar to the aged care pension rate.
For more details on eligibility and costs, it's best to check with My Aged Care or speak with our friendly team.
-
How can I extend my respite care?
If you need more than the standard 63 days of government-subsidised residential respite care per financial year, you can request an extension. Extensions may be granted in specific circumstances, such as:
- Your carer is unwell or unable to provide care
- You are waiting for a permanent aged care placement
- There are exceptional personal or medical reasons
To apply for an extension, you will need further assessment. It's best to contact My Aged Care or speak with our friendly team for guidance on the process.
-
