Catholic Healthcare volunteers recognised at the 2026 NSW Volunteer Awards

Catholic Healthcare volunteers have been recognised in the 2026 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards for the difference they make in the lives of older people across New South Wales. This year, 66 Catholic Healthcare volunteers were nominated by their teams for the care, companionship and support they provide to residents and clients through visits and phone calls. Seven have been named finalists, alongside Catholic Healthcare employees Malcolm Grice and Niv Srivastava, who are finalists for Adult Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer Leader of the Year respectively. Winners will be announced later this year.

Taking care of yourself during flu season 2026

As the weather cools and winter illnesses become more common, it is a good time to take a few simple steps to look after your health. As we get older, illnesses such as influenza, RSV and COVID-19 can have a greater impact, but small everyday habits can help you stay well. These include keeping up to date with recommended vaccinations, washing your hands regularly, eating well, staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest can all help support your health. If you are feeling unwell, stay home where possible and avoid visiting people who may be more vulnerable to illness. If symptoms develop, speak with your doctor about the best treatment options. Small steps can go a long way in protecting both your health and independence, and the wellbeing of those around you.
