Making the most of your Support at Home funding

As we all continue to settle into the new Support at Home program, finding the right balance of services and understanding how to make the most of your funding each three-month quarter has been challenging for many clients and families. It is a big shift from the way things used to work, and it is completely normal to still be finding your feet.

We want you to know we're committed to helping you navigate this. Your quarterly budget is there to support your health, wellbeing and independence at home, so it is important to make the most of it. Any unused funds above the allowable carry-over amount (currently $1,000 or 10% of your budget, whichever is greater) are returned to the government at the end of each quarter.

If you were on a Home Care Package prior to 1 November, you may also have accrued funds from that time. These are separate to your quarterly Support at Home budget and are retained rather than subject to the same end-of-quarter rules. You will find this balance on your statement under 'Home Care Account'. If you are ever unsure which balance is which, your Care Partner team can help you make sense of your statement.

That is why we'd love you to take a little time this quarter to stay on top of two things:

  • Your funds – your monthly statement shows what's been used and what's remaining across both your quarterly SAH budget and any Home Care Account balance, and your Care Partner can always confirm your up-to-date figures.
  • The services available to you – from personal care and allied health to social connection and everyday household support, there may be more ways to put your funding to work than you realise. Even a small increase in support can make a genuine difference to your confidence, independence and quality of life.

You have already been approved for this support. We are here to help you make the most of it. If you would like to discuss your funding or services, speak with your Care Partner team, select 'Request Services' through the Catholic Healthcare App, or call 1800 225 474.
