Regina Celebrates a 'Red' Milestone!

When Regina, resident at St Mary’s Berkeley, turned 100 recently she joined a very special centenarian’s club!

“We helped to celebrate Regina’s 100th birthday, providing her with a beautiful red-velvet milestone cake. She was joined by fellow residents (who are also friends) and staff,” says Virginia, Residential Manager at St Mary’s.

“The colour of the cake was intentional – as that is Regina’s favourite colour – red.”

The staff organised a beautiful high-tea celebration on the morning for all to enjoy.

Regina was born on 8 September 1921 in Poland. She was taken from her family during World War II when she was just a teenager and never saw her family again. Regina was a prisoner of war for five years. During this time, she was forced to work in a factory, working long, hard hours - with very little food.

In 1950, Regina travelled to Australia and resided at a Bathurst hostel. She later married a Polish man and worked for some time in the Bondsfactory in Port Kembla.

Regina’s tough upbringing has made her tremendously resilient, and a woman of character.

“Regina is a friendly and loving person. She has been living at St Mary’s for five years and is very well-liked. It’s quite amazing what she has been through and how she came through it,” says Leanne, Recreational Activities Officer, St Mary’s.

“She loves dancing, reading, watching movies, playing bingo and socialising with residents at the Home. She is truly full of life!”

Regina enjoyed celebrating her 100th Birthday at the Home, joined by her close friend and fellow resident Wendy, other residents and staff.

Situated in pleasant garden surrounds, St Mary’s Berkeley offers residents a warm and welcoming community lifestyle.

Mary's Milestone

The team at St Paul’s Residential Aged Care in Northbridge were able to make Mary’s 100th birthday special by organising a beautiful celebration cake. “Mary had a very special day to celebrate her milestone. The day was very cheerful for the other residents and staff, especially during the current COVID-19 lockdown,” says Dan, Residential Manager at St Paul’s.
