Mary's Milestone

The team at St Paul’s Residential Aged Care in Northbridge were able to make Mary’s 100th birthday special by organising a beautiful celebration cake.

“Mary had a very special day to celebrate her milestone. The day was very cheerful for the other residents and staff, especially during the current COVID-19 lockdown,” says Dan, Residential Manager at St Paul’s.

“The team designed a beautiful heart-shaped cake. We also acknowledged the other residents who celebrate birthdays in September.”

Mary has been a resident at St Paul’s since 2017 and is known to take advantage of the garden areas at the Home.

“I love to go and sit in the garden area to enjoy the sun after lunch each day. There are so many different varieties of plants and flowers which is stimulating,” says Mary.

Mary has an interesting background and is a direct descendant of James Norton, Australia’s first solicitor and former Member of the Legislative Council. Norton Street in Leichhardt bears the famous family name. Mary has also written a book called Never Say Die detailing the history of the Norton family.

“I still enjoy reading and writing. I write in my diary every single day and keep a record of what I have done,” says Mary.

And Mary’s secret to living such a long, healthy life?

“I keep both my mind and my body healthy. I have always enjoyed playing tennis and used to do all my own shopping by foot, so got plenty of exercise! The writing always kept my mind active and engaged.

“I also still enjoy a nice glass of red wine.”

Happy Birthday and congratulations Mary from all of us at Catholic Healthcare!

St Paul’s is located on Sydney’s north shore, offering quality accommodation with tastefully decorated and spacious rooms.
