Catholic Healthcare takes part in the 2026 Volunteering NSW State Conference

Catholic Healthcare represented at Volunteering NSW State Conference

Catholic Healthcare proudly joined sector leaders at the Volunteering NSW State Conference on Monday, 25 May 2026, where the theme Leadership that Transforms Communities sparked meaningful conversations about inclusion, connection and the power of volunteering to strengthen communities.

Representing Catholic Healthcare, Volunteer Coordinator Niv Srivastava took part in a panel discussion on inclusion in the volunteering sector, sharing insights from her experience in aged care, disability and volunteer engagement. Catholic Healthcare Volunteer Manager Ashleigh Thomas and Volunteer Coordinator Evette Johnstone also attended the event.

‘It was an engaging and thought-provoking discussion, with rich perspectives from across the sector,’ Niv said. ‘Inclusion is about moving beyond good intentions and taking meaningful action so people feel welcomed, heard and valued.’

A key message from the discussion was that inclusion is not only about who is in the room, but how people experience being in the room. For Catholic Healthcare, this reflects our commitment to creating welcoming volunteer experiences where people can share their time, skills and compassion in meaningful ways.

The panel explored how organisations can better support inclusive volunteering by listening deeply, recognising barriers and creating environments where volunteers feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Niv also highlighted the importance of practical steps such as clear communication, thoughtful onboarding, active listening and recognising the contribution volunteers make every day. These actions help build confidence, connection and a stronger sense of purpose for volunteers.

Catholic Healthcare’s participation in the conference was an opportunity to contribute to a positive conversation about the role of volunteering in reducing social isolation, enhancing wellbeing and helping older people feel connected to their community.
