Celebrating our Employees - Aymon Jones

What makes our care so special at Catholic Healthcare? It’s our amazing employees! We love shining a light on our employees who every day make a difference to the lives of our residents, clients, and their families.

Everything from dressing up in a leotard or the Australian flag to organising celebrations and pet therapy visits is all in a day’s work in Aymon’s job as lifestyle coordinator at St John’s Villa New Lambton.

The stars aligned for Aymon the year he turned 30—he had just managed his Home’s successful Christmas party and landed the job of his dreams!

A sea change to Newcastle from Orange allowed him to trial a lifestyle coordinator position with the support of his regional and care managers, Ruth and Deb, and the knowledge that he could return to the ‘care’ side if he didn't like the job.

The rest is history as Aymon has embraced his new job to come up with wonderful ideas to entertain, engage and support the residents including a desire to buy a couple of budgies for their enjoyment!

One of Aymon’s activities included organising Shetland ponies to come in for a visit—made worthwhile by the residents' priceless reactions.

Another in-demand program proving a hit with the residents is the intergenerational program with Busy Bees Childcare Centre.

“The children ran straight to one of our residents and grabbed her hand with a big smile and said, ‘Hello, do you remember me?’ and the resident with dementia responded, ‘Of course I do!’

I realised in that moment how special next year will be,” said Aymon.

As well as having fun with the residents, Aymon loves to include the residents in his activity planning process.

"I'm so lucky to be able to do what I do for a living. I enjoy my job, making the residents happy. There are so many good people.”

“I work with a 102-year-old resident, and she just amazes me every day. I just think… wow!”
