The Grant McBride Virtual Memory Walk and Jog

Each year, Catholic Healthcare puts forward a team to participate in the Grant McBride Memory Walk and Jog.

We have a special connection to this event as Grant McBride was a Catholic Healthcare client attending the Warnervale Wellness Centre on the Central Coast. Grant lived with younger onset dementia and sadly lost his battle with the condition when he was just 68 years old.

Grant was an engineer, teacher and Minister in the NSW Parliament. His daughter, Emma McBride MP, Federal Member for Dobell, is the organiser of the annual event.

“I lost Dad to younger onset dementia and I also lost my Grandma to dementia. I made a promise to my Mum that I would do everything I could to help people living with dementia and those who care for them,” says Emma.

“We knew that when Dad was at the Warnervale Wellness Centre he was cared for and always treated with kindness, respect and compassion. Through the patience and kindness of the staff Dad came to enjoy his time there.”

The Grant McBride Memory Walk is going virtual this year and is on this Saturday 25 September at 10.00am.

The event will raise funds for people living with dementia, their families and carers during this Dementia Action Week 2021. It will also be a chance to honour Grant’s memory and raise awareness for this worthy cause.

Participants can elect to walk, jog, ride a bike or do any kind of exercise.

Some ideas to try include:

  1. Walking around your local neighbourhood
  2. Doing a virtual workout at home
  3. Keeping active by cleaning the house or gardening

To join the Catholic Healthcare team and to be a part of this event, visit the website - Grant McBride Virtual Memory Walk & Jog.

It costs just $5 to participate. When you register you can select to join the Catholic Healthcare team.

Good luck and thanks for the support!
