Music to Our Ears - Online Music Concerts

The Home & Community Services team have hosted our inaugural online music concerts in September, during the lockdown period, with many clients enjoying the opportunity to tune in and participate.

So far there have been three concerts, and they have come at an opportune time – helping to alleviate isolation during the lockdown.

The most recent concert was held on Friday 1 October, featuring Mark Fleming who is a Registered Music Therapist.  Mark, who is a vocalist, guitarist and classically trained pianist, performed classics such as All My Loving, Country Road, Daydream Believer and The Road to Gundagai to name a few! Many of our Home Care clients requested songs throughout his performances, singing and ‘dancing’ along in their chairs.

Clients have provided wonderful feedback who attended the online music concerts.

“The concerts were very relaxing. I made it to all three sessions and I even made some song suggestions. Once I settled in I felt good and so did Paul, my husband,” says Yvonne, client.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the shows, as you can see, I attended all three! Especially during lockdown, it was great. I hope they continue,” says Niloufer.

Research has demonstrated that music has the ability to engage the brain through an extensive set of processes that are preserved and functional, even when other abilities have declined. Music therapy can have a beneficial impact on people’s health, functioning and wellbeing, helping to improve people’s quality of life, in terms of physical, social, emotional and spiritual health.

Stay tuned, as the Home Care team are planning to organise a set of online Christmas concerts in December for all Aged Care residents and Home Care clients.

More information to come.
