COVID-19 Information - Retirement Living

Current Communication

4 January 2022

With the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the community, additional precautions are in place for Catholic Healthcare’s Retirement Living Villages, including limiting the number of non-essential visitors.

The health, safety and wellbeing of residents and families is our highest priority.

Visitors must follow the following measures:

  • Sign in at the village entrance using the QR code
  • Limit visits to a short duration
  • Minimise the number of visitors at any one time
  • Group gatherings are not recommended
  • Practice social distancing at all times
  • Abide by village COVID-19 plans
  • Monitor advice from NSW Health

If you would like extra support from Catholic Healthcare’s Home and Community Services team or a volunteer, please call 1800 225 474.

COVID-19 has created exceptional circumstances that have disrupted ordinary retirement village operating procedures. We encourage residents, families and friends to be patient, flexible and work together to protect residents’ health.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Village Manager. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

Previous Communication

3 December 2021

Catholic Healthcare is pleased to advise that all Village staff are fully vaccinated. Staff who received their second COVID-19 vaccination more than 6 months ago are now encouraged to go get a booster. Getting a booster dose is strongly recommended to maintain immunity against COVID-19.

In addition to COVID-19 vaccination, our Village staff have comprehensive infection control protocols in place consistent with Government advice to minimise risks for residents and visitors. Protocols include mandatory indoor mask wearing; QR check-in; staff training on infection control and handwashing; and reminding staff to stay home when they are unwell.

Until further notice, only fully vaccinated residents can use community areas. Covid rules are subject to further easing on December 15th as NSW surpasses 95% double vaccination of the eligible population.

Community Workers are authorised by NSW Health to continue delivering essential Home Care services such as grocery deliveries and clinical services. This applies to all Village residents with a Home Care Package or Commonwealth Home Support Programme.

Please call our Customer Care Team on 1800 225 474 for Retirement Living support or speak to your onsite Village Manager.

We are here to support you to stay safe and well.

29 June 2021

To protect the people of NSW from the evolving COVID-19 outbreak, current stay-at-home orders have been extended across all of Greater Sydney including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong..

Everyone in Greater Sydney must stay at home unless there is a need to leave their home for an essential reason. The reasons you may leave your home include:

  • Shopping for food or other essential goods and services
  • Medical care or compassionate needs (people can leave home to have a COVID-19 vaccination unless you have been identified as a close or casual contact of a COVID case)
  • Exercise outdoors in groups of 10 or fewer
  • Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home.

In line with these and other NSW government restrictions, the Community Centre at your Retirement Living Village is now closed, and all group activities have been cancelled. This includes bus excursions during this period.

All Catholic Healthcare’s Residential Aged Care Homes now have visitor restrictions in place with no visitors allowed during this period (unless prior agreement on compassionate grounds). This includes no access for Mass or other services located in an aged care Home.

We ask that you limit visits from friends or family coming into the Village unless the visit is for essential reasons.

If you have an appointment to get your COVID-19 vaccine, unless you are feeling unwell, please still attend. Please ensure you check the NSW Health website daily for updates on case contact locations and follow the directions provided.

Please keep safe and if you feel unwell, get tested and self-isolate.

1 January 2021

All our retirement villages and our community centres and facilities are open.

Our Villages comply with an approved and registered COVID Safe Plan for each location. These plans are updated as restrictions and advice changes.

Please consult your Village Manager for further information.

30 July 2020

Residents of retirement communities are at increased risk of COVID-19 infection and are more vulnerable to serious complications if they do become infected. As there is currently no vaccination to prevent COVID-19, avoidance of exposure is the single most important measure for preventing COVID-19 in any setting. The Department of Health’s advice for people aged 70 years or older or aged 65 years or older with chronic health problems remains unchanged and is to continue to stay at home where possible.

The current advice for the operation of community centres within retirement villages is that they must remain closed. We are therefore unable to reopen the community / common areas until these restrictions are lifted.
