Evacuated residents from Catholic Healthcare’s Bodington Home at Wentworth Falls, impacted by the bushfires, received ongoing first-class care when re-located to other Homes recently.
On 20 December, 118 residents from Bodington were welcomed by other Catholic Healthcare Homes including, Emmaus Village Kemps Creek, McQuoin Park Wahroonga, Holy Spirit Croydon, St James Villa Matraville, St Hedwig Blacktown, Lewisham Nursing Home, Gertrude Abbott Aged Care Surry Hills, St Anne’s Aged Care Hunters Hill, St Bede’s Home South Hurstville, Holy Spirit Aged Care Revesby, and Anglicare’s Melva McDonald Lodge Rooty Hill.
Care Manager of Bodington, Sue Gordon said, “Most residents were transported via patient transport while others were transferred by buses supplied from our homes, the Blue Mountains Grammar School and Fantastic Aussie Tours.
“Several staff from Bodington accompanied the residents to their visiting homes to provide support, familiarity and stability. This was amazing given some staff had to evacuate their own family homes due to the threat of bushfires.”
Residents from Bodington were made to feel safe and comfortable at their visiting homes.
“During the four days they spent at their ‘new’ homes, Bodington residents had a positive experience and many commented that it was lovely to see what the other homes were like,” said Sue. “They also continued to receive first-class clinical care,” added Sue.
Catholic Healthcare has made a significant investment in implementing an electronic clinical care application (eCase) which is used in all its 40 Homes.
“With eCase, our Bodington staff had continued access to residents’ clinical records so that we could continue to provide a high standard of care.”
Residents returned to Bodington on Christmas Eve and were very happy to be home. In early January, the Home was again impacted by the bushfires, but this time were able to ‘shelter in place’. Since then, Bodington has welcomed some much-needed rain.
