Working as the Concierge Care Advisor in the Waterloo Towers is a role I genuinely enjoy. I support some of our most vulnerable older people, helping them navigate home care services, connect with community supports and access services that meet their individual needs.
A big part of my role is building trust. Vulnerable communities can sometimes be overlooked and there can be gaps in the system. By checking in regularly, listening and following through, I have been able to build relationships where clients feel comfortable sharing their stories and asking for help when they need it.
I look beyond a client’s specific service needs. Social isolation is a common issue with people in a vulnerable situation. Part of my role is to connect clients with our Wednesday social and pastoral group, monthly afternoon teas, health and wellbeing programs, and other community activities. This gives them a regular opportunity to connect, have a chat, build friendships and know they are part of a community.
One of the most rewarding parts of my role is seeing the impact our presence has made in Waterloo. I have become a familiar face, someone clients know, trust and feel comfortable approaching.
For me, my role is about more than coordinating services. It is about being present, building genuine relationships and making sure people know there is someone there to listen, support and help them find a way forward.
