From Care Manager at St John’s Villa, New Lambton, to Residential Manager at Emmaus Village, Kemps Creek – Congratulations, Sam Bhatta!
Sam’ Bhatta’s journey with Catholic Healthcare began in July 2023, when she joined as a Care Manager at St John’s Villa. Prior to that, she started in the aged care sector as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA).
‘From early on, I had the drive to progress. First, aspiring to be a Registered Nurse (RN), to a care manager and then a residential manager,’ said Sam.
‘That ambition, combined with the consistent support from Catholic Healthcare I received along the way, helped me grow and reach where I am today.’
‘While in the care manager role, I enrolled in the Equip Frontline Leaders course, which became a turning point in my professional development.’
‘It taught me the importance of holding crucial conversations, making critical decisions, and leading with purpose.’
Although initially hesitant to step into the residential manager role due to its demands, the trust and encouragement from Sam’s peers gave her the confidence to accept the challenge.
‘Doing the role temporarily is one thing but taking it on full-time requires dedication and strong support, and the support across departments is outstanding, and the culture is one where no one says no to helping each other.’
Stepping stones throughout career
Each position Sam has held has prepared him for the next challenge.
‘Being a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) has helped me to understand the core of resident care; working as an RN developed my clinical knowledge and leadership at the floor level; and being a Care Manager taught me about compliance, team coordination, and operational responsibility. All these experiences built a strong foundation for my current role as a Residential Manager.'
Sam’s passion for his work shines through
‘What I love most about being a residential manager is the ability to make a real difference, not only in the lives of residents but also in shaping the culture and success of the home. It is a role where you lead, mentor, and grow every single day.’
‘To anyone considering a career at Catholic Healthcare or aspiring to be a residential manager, I would say: go for it. Believe in yourself, embrace the learning, and be open to the opportunities that come your way.'
‘I am grateful for the support, guidance, and opportunities Catholic Healthcare has provided. Every step of my career here has been both challenging and rewarding. I look forward to continuing this journey and contributing to the organisation’s mission in any way I can.’
