Following in Florence Nightingale's footsteps

Catholic Healthcare’s (CHL) Susan Oliver is following in the footsteps of her heroine Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

‘She was a transformational leader. She set an example of compassion, commitment to patient care and pioneered public health and nursing education,’ said Susan.

Most recently, Susan added Credentialled Infection Control Professional at Advanced Level to her long list of achievements over a 40-year career in clinical nursing.

This is really a career highlight for me, and I look forward to servicing the [Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control Ltd] and raising the profile of all residential aged care Infection Prevention Control leads,’ she said.

In her role as manager of infection prevention and control, Susan leads the development of CHL’s operational infection prevention and control program and response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Susan is also a recent scholarship recipient through HARTMANN GROUP’s Scholarship Award Program for clinical excellence in skin, wound and continence care.

Her resilience from the transformational experience of actively managing the COVID-19 pandemic in residential aged care has seen Susan embrace a career redirection.

‘I am committed to supporting the nursing profession, to contribute to the development of suitably qualified infection prevention and control leads and to create robust infection control programs targeted specifically for aged care,’ she said.
