Celebrating our wonderful Catholic Healthcare Volunteers

This week, 15-21 May is National Volunteer Week! Catholic Healthcare is fortunate to have over 700 wonderful volunteers delivering much needed support and friendship to our residents and clients.

Catholic Healthcare volunteers visit head office

At Catholic Healthcare’s head office in Macquarie Park, employees had the privilege of listening to Sanjeev Prasad and Anne Kirk share their experiences as Catholic Healthcare volunteers. Their stories were very moving and provided insight into the wonderful impact our amazing volunteers have on the lives of Catholic Healthcare’s residents and clients.

While setting aside an hour of your time might not seem like much, it can be a priceless contribution to someone else’s life. Whether it’s a visit to their home or a conversation on the phone, having someone to talk to about current affairs, reflecting on the past or enjoying a laugh can be a rewarding moment for both people involved.

Volunteer, Towfiq Ahamed's story

Catholic Healthcare volunteer, Towfiq Ahamed describes his experience volunteering with Catholic Healthcare resident, Douglas as “really fun times, a lot of chats, a lot of wisdom being shared!” Towfiq has a full-time corporate job and relishes the time he spends with Douglas, who he has been visiting each fortnight since 2022. The men have bonded over their passion for the stock market and cryptocurrency, and Douglas, a past solicitor, has provided Towfiq with helpful business and career advice.

This isn’t the first time Towfiq has been a volunteer, but he was drawn to volunteering in aged care because “it keeps you really down to earth… talking to older people makes you realise the important things in life,” he says. Towfiq adds that “if I am lucky to be old one day, I hope that I get a similar opportunity to talk to the younger generation.” Towfiq shares more about his experience in this short video.

Towfiq’s generosity extends beyond volunteering. He is on a mission to spread kindness and created Get Your Compliments to brighten the lives of people around the world, one compliment at a time.
