Celebrating The Brighton retirement community's warm and inviting spirit

The Brighton is a wonderful, caring retirement community located in the vibrant suburb of Croydon.

The residents are warm, inviting and are truly giving, not only to their local community, but recipients of their generosity live on the other side of the world!

Take for example the Men’s Shed – a talented group of male residents who assist residents living at The Brighton with repairing furniture, assembling flatpacks (even without instructions – now that’s clever!) and other projects designed for the enjoyment of other residents.

Bunnings Greenacre has encountered firsthand the talented Men’s Shed at The Brighton. What started out as making bun holders for the weekend sausage sizzle (a genius idea) expanded to a project to really test their woodwork skills. The request… a sleigh and a throne for Santa. Together, the men worked out the design and built a beautiful sleigh and throne for Santa to use when he visits Bunnings Greenacre during Christmas.

The female residents also have their own way of giving back to others. The Craft Group meets weekly to knit rugs for people all over the world in need of some extra warmth for the Wrap with Love program. Wrap with Love is an Australian initiative whose mission is “Knitting blankets for cold humanity”. What is so special about this group is the comradery, as not all ladies attending can knit, but are welcomed with open arms for a chat over a cup of tea.

The Craft Group’s talents extend beyond knitting. They bake too! Their baking abilities are so impressive, they raised $4,000 for The Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea last year.
