Jemalong Village residents shine with the Melbourne Cup

The air was filled with excitement as the Melbourne Cup arrived at Jemalong Village, for a once in a lifetime visit.

Dressed in their fascinators, hats and bow ties, residents and team members had an opportunity to get up close to the 1.65kg, 18 carat gold Cup. “The 2022 Melbourne Cup was an amazing experience for all at Jemalong Village,” said Merryl Morris, Recreational Activities Officer.

Complete with all the festivities one would expect at the Melbourne Cup, residents were treated to a sumptuous luncheon, fashion parade, high tea and a phantom race call. The residents were thrilled when Jemalong was declared the race winner!

Jemalong Village was selected as one of the lucky 33 destinations included on the 2022 Melbourne Cup Tour. The Cup comes from Evolutions Cowal Mine, approximately 100km from Forbes.

Whilst the Melbourne Cup dates back to 1861, the Melbourne Cup Tour is a recent initiative, which commenced in 2003. To date, the Cup has visited more than 560 destinations and travelled over 760,000 kilometres.

Special thanks to Victoria Racing Club for including Jemalong Village in the 2022 Melbourne Cup Tour.
