Out and About with Catholic Healthcare

The Home & Community Services team for Northern Sydney is excited to be offering weekly social outings for their Home Care Package clients, exploring Sydney as they go.

Clients are being given the opportunity to visit Sydney sites they may not have seen in a while or may have never been to.

Last week a group set off to enjoy Bobbin Head and the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on a sunny autumn day.

“The weather was a blessing on the day, with waters glistening and trees turning into autumn colours,” says Dora Major, Day Centre Coordinator. “We had the park almost all to ourselves, clients were very captivated by it all, they enjoyed a snack lunch in the sun while chatting with each other.

“The three to four-hour social outings are a great way to connect clients with like-minded people living in the community. The clients are very positive about the initiative and are enjoying getting out and about again.”

Bus trips are planned for Clontarf Beach, Barangaroo, Balmoral Beach, Lane Cove National Park and other locations throughout May and June.

The group meets at either the Willoughby Day Centre or Chantal Cottage in Waitara where they head off by bus, accompanied by Catholic Healthcare staff. Morning tea and a light lunch are provided.

If you have a Home Care Package, live in Northern Sydney and you would like to get involved in the weekly trips call Dora Major on (02) 8876 2270 or 0491 690 182 or email dmajor@chcs.com.au. If you need assistance to get to the meeting points at Willoughby or Waitara, Catholic Healthcare can arrange transportation utilising a Community Worker or taxi. These costs, as well as the outings, can be funded through a Home Care Package.
