The Butterfly Effect

When the scheduled visit from the local pre-school in Grafton, The Investigators, had to be put on hold the residents of St Francis Aged Care Home were delighted to instead receive some beautiful letters and drawings from the children.

“The residents were pleasantly surprised when the children posted their drawings and letters to them instead – it was so lovely and touching,” says Ann-Marie, Recreational Activities Officer at St Francis.

The letters from the children read:

“Dear Nannies and Poppies, we were very much looking forward to visiting you but we have had to postpone this. While we are waiting, we thought it would be a lovely idea to create some special drawings for you to look at and place in your rooms. These pictures were made with love. We are very excited to visit you soon when we can.”

The residents at St Francis decided to reciprocate by sending some of their butterfly artworks back to the children, from the Butterfly Kisses project.

The residents also sent a thank you letter back to the children:

“Thank you so very much for the wonderful drawings, it certainly put a very big smile on our faces and we have proudly displayed them in our Home! We painted some butterflies for you to display in the pre-school to show you that we are thinking of you too.”

At Lewisham Nursing Home, the residents have also been corresponding with their families and loved ones in the last couple of weeks. They have designed and decorated personalised cards to send back home.

The butterfly effect is certainly being felt at many of our Homes during this current period and it has been moving to see these expressions of love, peace and happiness.
