Bringing the bush to the beach

Residents from George Mockler Home in Mona Vale were delighted to welcome some different visitors to their Christmas party in early December*.

The Home had received a Lifestyle and Engagement prize from the Catholic Healthcare Education team for achieving the highest response rate to its Residential Aged Care Staff Education Survey in 2020.

The prize George Mockler selected was a visit from a KindiFarm to the Home. Lots of animals came to visit including a calf, sheep, rabbits, goats and chickens.

“All the residents really enjoyed the visit,” says Lindal Jeffreys, Residential Manager.

“One resident who really loves animals was unsure about coming down to where all the animals were gathered so we took a goat to his room and that did the trick. He came downstairs and loved it. It was really touching seeing him so tender with the animals.”

The KindiFarm also sparked many memories and discussions among the staff and residents.

One resident had raised goats previously and another shared his memories of a farm he had in New Zealand.

“I remember my childhood visits to my uncle’s dairy farm. It’s amazing how the sense of smell can bring back such beautiful memories.”

It was a special day.

* The visit was held prior to current visitor restrictions.
