Residents making a difference in the community

A second delivery of handmade blankets and beanies (4 wonderful blankets and 12 individually designed beanies) from St Paul’s Aged Care in Northbridge has been donated to Wayside Chapel in Sydney.

“A lot of work has gone into these items,” says Anita, Recreational Activities Officer at St Paul’s. “We are hoping they may find recipients to treasure them.

“Many of our residents are keen knitters. One resident, Marie, receives orders from staff for beanies in all sizes for adults and children. The St Paul’s cleaner has happily received his brown and light blue stripe beanie, another nurse has ordered hers plus one for her two year old.

The blankets are single handedly knitted and assembled by another resident, Anne.

“We have been delivering blankets to Wayside Chapel for a number of years now,” says Anita. “Usually residents and I make a bus trip there, have a coffee in the Wayside Chapel cafeteria and, with the help of their coordinator who knows the people, wrap our blankets around those who would like one and need them. This year, because of Covid, I have had to do the trip on my own.

“It’s great for the residents to actively knit but especially working for a real purpose. It is wonderfully satisfying for those industrious seniors to see their work so very much appreciated.”
