Living the life in retirement

After a lifetime of work, raising a family, living overseas and around Australia, Edith and Barry Mealing (pictured) are enjoying their good lifestyle at The Brighton in Croydon.

The couple moved to their spacious, corner apartment in 2015, soon after The Brighton was completed.

“Even though we have a relatively large family, once they had all moved away from Sydney we decided to move out of our apartment at Cape Cabarita to a retirement village,” says Edith.

“After visiting a number of villages around Sydney, and as far south as Berry, we went to The Brighton. We found the location ideal as it was very close to where we were living before. It is also so handy to the city, as well as shopping centres, entertainment and hospitals.

“Since moving we have continued to travel, knowing our apartment will be secure while we are away. You don’t have to worry about mowing the lawn, home maintenance, cleaning or security. You can lock up and go.”

As well as this peace of mind, Edith and Barry have made many new friends.

“As we have not moved too far from where we used to live, we have been able to keep our old circle of friends as well as make new ones here,” says Barry. “There is a good social committee which organises regular activities and there’s even a Men’s Shed. The Brighton suits our way of life with its pool, cinema, library and BBQs – there’s plenty to keep you occupied if you would like to join in.

“The staff are also very helpful and attend to residents’ requests or concerns with a smile.”

If you are thinking about retirement living, Edith and Barry recommend visiting villages and organising a tour.

“Many people here have the same views on life. They have worked hard, raised families and are now enjoying their retirement.”

The Brighton is located at 17-23 Croydon Ave, Croydon NSW
