MyWish Taronga Western Plains Zoo

Residents from St Mary’s Villa, Dubbo thoroughly enjoyed their recent MyWish excursion to Taronga Western Plains Zoo*. MyWish is a Catholic Healthcare program which is granting residents who are living in one of our Aged Care Homes their special wish. It’s about promoting and valuing life at any age and providing residents with the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional experience.

The residents firstly enjoyed a luxurious High Tea at the zoo which included devonshire tea, salmon bagels and egg sandwiches. They then got into the zoo’s golf buggies and were delighted to see the meerkats, zebras, rhinoceros and cheetahs to name a few.

“The MyWish outings keep the residents well-connected and allow them to interact more freely than they would in the Home,” said Lorraine, Recreational Activities Officer.

“Taronga Western Plains Zoo is a special place for the residents and we are very fortunate here in Dubbo to have such a large and popular attraction. The zoo is in very close proximity to St Mary’s Villa in Dubbo and was top of the ‘wish list’ for the residents when they were asked what their ideal ‘wish’ would be.”

The residents had glowing reviews of the zoo on the day.

“The zoo is a special place for us in Dubbo,” said one resident, who was very appreciative of the staff at St Mary’s and the care they show. “The staff always go above and beyond, we just love them.”

If you would like to nominate a MyWish experience for your Residential Aged Care Home email communications@chcs.com.au.

* Visit took place prior to current lockdown

Set in landscaped gardens, St Mary’s Villa is a warm and welcoming Residential Aged Care Home located in Dubbo. There are always a wide range of outings and activities to choose from and qualified and friendly staff assist and care for all those who call St Mary’s Villa their home.
