Percy Miles Villa residents are transported to Wonderland
28 Jun 2018
Morning tea at Percy Miles Villa aged care home was transformed into an adventure today, as residents enjoyed their coffees and cakes in an Alice in Wonderland-themed activities room.
The residents of the Kirrawee-based home were in full spirit as they joined their Residential Care Manager and other special guests at the ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ – sporting crowns, caps and chapeaus of all shapes and sizes.
The Percy Miles Villa home holds a theme each month to engage the residents in activities, explains Residential Care Manager, Catherine. The Mad Hatter theme, she says, is just one of many.
“Having a theme really gets the residents involved,” she says. “From dressing up to games and themed morning teas like this one – you can see how much fun they have! It makes them feel young again.”
Residents of the home demonstrated how young at heart they truly are at the tea party, where they spent more than two hours singing, dancing and laughing among their peers. The residents even had a live entertainer join them for more than an hour of belting out old school hits.
The Percy Miles Villa holds 40 accommodation places in the green surrounds of the Sutherland Shire. A mere 10 minutes from the nearest beach, the home has attracted many residents who feel connected to the community-oriented, beachy feel of the area.
Ursula Goldman, a resident of Percy Miles as of April this year, was a local of the area before she made the decision to move into residential aged care and she “couldn’t be happier.”
“The care here is really terrific,” she says. “I wouldn’t choose to live anywhere else.”
