Gold medal-winning athlete, Jana Pittman visited Holy Spirit Croydon Residential Aged Care this week offering residents an exciting opportunity to meet the star and ask her questions.
Pittman, three-time Olympic Games representative, visited Croydon for the residents’ weekly movie afternoon – introducing the film of the day that directly correlates with her successful athletic career: Cool Runnings.
Before introducing the film, Pittman spoke about some of her many career highlights, reminiscing on her opportunity to run with famous Australian former sprinter, Cathy Freeman, and the Australian Athletics Tour in 2011 after recovering from a serious injury and the birth of her first child.
Pittman also talked in-depth about her experience as a professional bob-sledder, competing in the two-person event at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 with partner, Astrid Radjenovic.
Joined by her two daughters, Jemima and Emily, Pittman says despite all her achievements, it’s been the process of taking care of her children that has brought her the most joy in life.
Jemima and Emily joined Jana at the microphone at Holy Spirit, excited to entertain the group of local residents filling the room.
Residents were particularly intrigued to hear Jana’s exciting news in working towards a career as a fertility specialist – a path she has been pursuing at university for four years and hopes to be formally practicing in a few years’ time.
Jana also shared her new release autobiography, Just Another Hurdle with several residents and staff, who were lucky enough to take home signed copies for themselves and their families.
Finally, residents enjoyed the Cool Runnings movie and left feeling a little more enlightened about the world of bob-sledding after hearing Jana’s personal accounts.
