Elvis is in the building... at Holy Spirit, Croydon

Providing social and meaningful activities at our Residential Aged Care homes is the Catholic Healthcare approach and we are always looking for new ways to bring residents together. Each residential home develops its own repertoire of activities and one of these was recently in action at Holy Spirit, Croydon.

At the suggestion of residents and families, ‘Elvis’ was booked for a morning concert where he sang all the old favourites and got many up dancing or tapping their toes.

And it wasn’t just residents enjoying the concert… children, husbands, wives and friends of residents all joined in the fun.

“It was all about community,” says Beth Barton, Holy Spirit’s Senior Lifestyle Coordinator. “It brought everyone together to enjoy some time out followed by a BBQ lunch.

“It really lifted the spirits of everyone and helped set the mood for the day.”

Beth recently moved from Newcastle to take up the lifestyle coordinator role at Holy Spirit and she is full of ideas for activities which keep residents active mentally and physically.

“There are activities planned for every day which help promote health and wellbeing. We are talking to the residents to find out their interests and hobbies and plan events based on this feedback. Coming up is a Pearls and Tiara High Tea to celebrate the Queens Birthday weekend, we’ve booked an Italian singer and lunch for Italy’s National Day later in June, and we are introducing chair yoga and pool noodle hockey.

“We want residents to feel that Holy Spirit is their home, enjoying every minute of their lives and enjoying it with family and friends.”
