A special place...

The lucky staff at St Joseph’s Coffs Harbour will be ready for winter this year.
Resident, Mary, loves to crochet and she is stitching together special Bendigo Mills bamboo wool blankets for every staff member.
“I crochet the blankets for staff members because they are all very good to me,” says Mary.
“The care we receive at St Joseph’s is really special.”
Mary learned to crochet at the age of seven while on holidays with her cousins.
“It was called fancy work then,” she adds.
Chris from the catering team was very excited to receive her blanket. Mary made Chris a blanket to say thanks for the special soya milkshakes Chris makes for her, and her favourite Sunday roast dinners.
Mary loves all the activities at St Joseph’s and the companionship she now enjoys, including happy hour, the pre-school children visits, Bluebird singers and exercises.
Mary has a Degree in Geography from the University of New England and during her career she was thrilled to be offered a role at the University of Sydney to run two geology laboratories.
“The Head of the department gave me permission to go anywhere on campus to learn how to thin section rock and use an electron microscope to determine the minerals in the rock slide.”
