Lifeful

NOT even pelting rain could deter people attending Catholic Healthcare’s Restorative Care seminar at the Medical Education Centre, Concord Hospital.

Participants were the first to hear the positive trends in Lifeful, a restorative care and reablement program on ways to help keep seniors out of hospital, while discussing the future of aged care, change and reforms and Catholic Healthcare’s integrated range of services.

Keynote speaker Lee-Fay Low (Associate Professor in Ageing and Health from the University of Sydney) joined Matthew Filocamo (Regional Manager of Residential Aged Care), Jillian Comuzzo (Residential Manager from Catholic Healthcare’s Bodington Aged Care), and Daniel Davies (Health and Wellness Manager), addressing a crowd of social workers, ACATS, hospital managers and discharge nurses.

Matthew Filocamo, Regional Manager of Residential Aged Care stirred much thought around the industry challenges facing aged care over the next five years and the significant impacts dementia will have for the aged care sector and the Australian hospital system.

“It comes as no surprise that dementia is seen as one of the single biggest health issues and the second leading cause of death in Australia,” he said. “It is scary to think how dementia will be core business for aged care providers.”

Bodington Aged Care Residential Manager, Jillian Comuzzo shared her experience of the Lifeful restorative care pilot launch at the service, sharing the benefits and challenges of the pilot and what they learned about implementing this approach per resident.

“By learning about the resident and their personal history, we are able to implement a more targeted approach to understand their health,” said Jillian Commuzzo. “Restorative care at Bodington is here to stay.”

Health and Wellness Manager, Daniel Davies shared compelling results from the evidence-based program aimed at keeping people out of hospital and helping them live independently at home.

Catholic Healthcare will be holding two more Lifeful seminar events in late August at Macquarie Hosptial and Sutherland Hosptial. Spaces are limited register today
