Exhibition to showcase life inspired art

THE art of residents at Charles O'Neill Hostel will come to life at a special art exhibition on Wednesday 14 September, showcasing the results of the LifeCards Art Therapy Project.

To be held from 3pm to 5pm at Mayfield, near Newcastle, the event will feature the creative work of Catholic Healthcare’s Charles O’Neill Hostel residents.

The project, commenced two years ago, focuses on residents at the hostel, many of whom come from a background of homelessness, social and financial disadvantage, and are often struggling with mental health disorders.

Art therapy was introduced in an effort to improve the wellbeing and increase the social interaction of residents, with a total of 40 LifeCards created to celebrate the unique talents and personality strengths of those involved.

Through a series of art therapy sessions, our residents and staff shared reflections about each other’s positive qualities and contemplated the challenges and joys of ageing.  Art therapist Becky worked with our residents in groups and one-on-one.

Catholic Healthcare is extending an open invitation to the local community to attend the launch of LifeCards and view the exhibition, as well as havin the opportunity to meet some of the wonderful people involved in the project.

Over the coming weeks, a number of the images will be displayed on Facebook and Instagram.
