Program Structure

Falls can be more serious in older adults because they are more likely to be injured. Falls can also lead to older people losing confidence, becoming withdrawn and may feel as if they have lost their independence. Research has shown that older people who take part in regular strength and balance training are less likely to have a fall. Walking with Confidence is an extensive program, each session is one hour, consisting of education and exercise aimed at preventing falls and improving health knowledge and will include:
Week 1: Assessment and exercise
Week 2: Getting up from a fall and benefits of exercise
Week 3: Fear of falling
Week 4: Hazards in the home
Week 5: Osteoporosis
Week 6: Foot care, footwear and vision
Week 7: Medication management
Week 8: Final assessment and review of exercise
