Youth Support

Support for children and young people

Children and young people are sometimes not able to live at home safely. They may have experienced significant harm, they are at risk of abuse or their families might be unable to care for them because of disability, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence or mental illness.

When a child or young person is removed from their home, a range of Out of Home Care Services are available, including family and kinship care, general foster care, supported family group homes or residential care.

Matching services to the needs and abilities of children and young people is crucial to achieve the best outcomes possible. The Out of Home Care Assessment and Advisory Team will support the Department of Community Services and other agencies to achieve the best match and to carry out regular outcome measurements and re-assess the needs of children and young people at crucial times in their lives.
