Our structure

Catholic Healthcare's governance structure ensures transparency, accountability and consistency between its foundational responsibility, mission, values and services. Catholic Healthcare's governance responsibilities are carried out according to Church law and civil law.

Our Church law responsibilities are governed by:

  • Catholic Healthcare members and their representatives
  • Catholic Healthcare trustees.

Our civil law responsibilities are governed by:

  • Catholic Healthcare Ltd
  • Hawkesbury District Health Service Ltd
  • Trustees of Catholic Healthcare.

Every member organisation appoints a representative to act as member of Catholic Healthcare. These representatives elect the trustees who have carriage of the overall governance of Catholic Healthcare, as evidenced in the organisation's statutes.

The trustees make use of three civil law bodies for particular mission initiatives:

  • Catholic Healthcare Ltd owns and operates healthcare and aged care facilities and programs, and provides healthcare and aged care management services
  • Hawkesbury District Health Service Ltd provides Health Department contracted services in Catholic Healthcare's facility in the Hawkesbury area
  • Trustees of Catholic Healthcare is the sole member of the above companies and as such it appoints the boards of directors and the chairman of each company.

Catholic Healthcare membership is open to all religious congregations and their provinces and dioceses that own and control healthcare, aged care and community care facilities.

The role of our Trustees

The Trustees of Catholic Healthcare oversee the ministry and form the main conduit for communication with its member organisations, the NSW and ACT Bishops and the broader Catholic healthcare and aged care network.

The role of our boards

The boards are responsible for planning, monitoring and reviewing the strategic plan through structural, financial and organisational development. In addition, the boards ensure the organisation remains economically viable and sustainable while remaining true to its mission.
