History

Bodington's mission statement:

A tradition of care,
A spirit of respect,
A commitment to excellence.

The history of care on the Bodington site began in 1906, shortly after the declaration of Australia's federation. From 1908 until 1998, Bodington's story was one of ongoing care under the ownership of the Red Cross. It began offering support to veterans returning from World War I and then World War II, as well as tuberculosis patients through to 1957 when it became an aged care facility with 150 beds.

For 90 years, the Red Cross served people at the Bodington facility. As the new millennium approached, it became apparent that this icon of the upper Blue Mountains was in need of major change if it was to continue as a place of service and care.

Following a tender process, Red Cross chose Catholic Healthcare to manage Bodington from 1997. In January 1998, a formal transfer of ownership was made to Catholic Healthcare.

When designing and constructing the $11million redevelopment of Bodington in 1999/2000, great consideration was given to creating a homelike atmosphere. It was also important that the architecture of the facility would promote a high standard of care.
